Breathlessness can have many causes and is not always explained by routine heart or lung tests. I provide a structured assessment for persistent or unexplained breathlessness, bringing together respiratory, cardiovascular and other potential contributing factors. Where appropriate, further investigations can include lung function testing, imaging, echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET).

Persistent Cough

Complex Respiratory Medicine

Unexplained Breathlessness

A cough lasting more than eight weeks can have several contributing causes and is often frustrating when initial treatments have not helped. I provide a systematic assessment of persistent or unexplained cough, considering airway disease, upper airway problems, reflux, medication and cough hypersensitivity, with further investigation tailored to the individual.

Complex Respiratory Medicine

Complex Respiratory Medicine

Respiratory symptoms do not always fit neatly into a single diagnosis. I assess a broad range of respiratory problems, including asthma and airway disease, recurrent or persistent respiratory symptoms, abnormal lung function or imaging, and cases where the diagnosis remains uncertain. My approach is to review the whole clinical picture and investigate further where this is likely to be helpful.

This includes investigating unexplained breathlessness, reviewing abnormal echocardiogram or imaging findings, and assessing symptoms following pulmonary embolism. This includes investigating unexplained breathlessness, reviewing abnormal echocardiogram or imaging findings, and assessing symptoms following pulmonary embolism. Where appropriate, I can coordinate further investigation and referral to a specialist pulmonary hypertension service.

Long COVID and Post-Viral Symptoms

Long COVID and Post-Viral Symptoms

Recovery following COVID-19 and other viral illnesses can be prolonged and may involve breathlessness, fatigue, exercise intolerance and a range of other symptoms. I provide individualised assessment to identify potentially treatable contributors, exclude alternative explanations where appropriate, and help patients understand and manage their symptoms and recovery.

Sleep and Respiratory Health

Long COVID and Post-Viral Symptoms

Poor sleep can contribute to fatigue, impaired concentration and daytime symptoms, while respiratory and sleep-related conditions can significantly disrupt sleep quality. I assess sleep problems in the context of respiratory symptoms and overall health, including possible sleep-disordered breathing, and can arrange appropriate investigations such as overnight sleep studies where indicated.

Second Opinions & Diagnostic Review

Second Opinions & Diagnostic Review

Second Opinions & Diagnostic Review

Sometimes symptoms persist despite extensive investigation, or there may be uncertainty about a diagnosis or treatment plan. I offer detailed review of complex respiratory and breathlessness cases, including previous investigations and imaging, to provide a fresh perspective, identify any important gaps and help establish a clear plan for what should happen next.
