Breathlessness & Cough

Unexplained Breathlessness

We understand how distressing it can be to experience breathlessness. Dr Brame has a specialist interest in the assessment and management of unexplained breathlessness, providing thorough investigation and personalised care for patients with these symptoms.

Breathlessness can occur for many reasons — including cardiac, respiratory, allergic, gastrointestinal, haematological, neurological, muscular, or skeletal causes. We offer a comprehensive evaluation to identify the underlying problem and guide appropriate treatment.

All relevant investigations can be arranged at HCA London Bridge, including blood tests, imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI), lung function testing, sleep studies, echocardiography, ECGs, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Results are reviewed promptly, and you’ll receive clear follow-up, management advice, and onward referrals for any additional tests or opinions as needed.

Cough

Coughs and colds are common and usually settle within a week or two. However, if your symptoms are not improving, or if you experience any of the following, it’s important to seek further assessment:

  • A cough lasting more than three weeks
  • A cough that wakes you at night
  • Coughing up blood
  • Shortness of breath, breathing difficulty, or chest pain
  • Any other persistent or worrying symptoms

We offer a rapid and comprehensive assessment to identify the cause of your cough. You’ll have an initial consultation and, if needed, immediate access to diagnostic tests — including imaging (X-ray or CT), blood tests, and lung function testing.

Treatment can often begin on the same day as your appointment.
